No. While Willis, Texas is the birthplace of the Litter Prevention Network and Trash Rangers, our mission extends far beyond our hometown. Anyone who believes in creating cleaner communities and preventing litter is welcome to join our movement, regardless of where they live. We encourage individuals, families, schools, businesses, organizations, and community leaders across Texas and throughout the United States to get involved. We are also seeking passionate individuals and community partners who are interested in bringing our programs and initiatives to their own cities and towns. By working together and sharing successful ideas, we can create a network of communities committed to litter prevention, environmental stewardship, and community pride. What starts in one community can inspire change in many others. "Born in Willis. Built by Communities. Growing Across America."
Absolutely! In fact, children are one of the most important parts of our mission. We strongly encourage kids to participate because the habits and values they learn today can last a lifetime. By teaching children the importance of litter prevention, personal responsibility, community pride, and environmental stewardship at an early age, we help create future generations that naturally care for the places where they live, learn, work, and play. Through programs such as Trash Rangers, we make learning fun, interactive, and meaningful while helping children become leaders and role models within their families and communities. The habits and values children learn today can shape the communities they help create tomorrow.

Getting InvolvedCómo Participar

At this time, the Litter Prevention Network does not have any organized cleanup events scheduled. However, we may host community cleanup events in the future. In the meantime, we encourage individuals, families, schools, businesses, and community groups to organize their own cleanup activities when it is safe to do so.

If you plan to participate in a cleanup, consider bringing:

  • Work gloves or litter pickup tools
  • Trash bags
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather
  • Sunscreen, a hat, and other sun protection
  • Drinking water to stay hydrated
  • A fully charged phone to take before-and-after photos and share your impact

Most importantly, always put safety first. Avoid hazardous materials, sharp objects, busy roadways, private property, and any area that may present a risk. Children should always be supervised by a responsible adult. Remember: no amount of litter is worth risking your safety. If an area appears unsafe, report the issue to the appropriate authority rather than attempting to clean it yourself.

  • Keep all trash inside your vehicle until it can be properly disposed of
  • Do not place loose trash in the bed of your pickup truck — wind can carry it onto roads
  • Use a vehicle trash container or bag to keep trash contained
  • Secure every load on every trip using cargo nets, tarps, or straps
  • Remove temporary signs when they are no longer needed
  • Dispose of chewing gum properly — wrap it and place it in a trash can
  • Take your trash with you when attending events, parks, and public gatherings
  • If you smoke, use a small bottle with water as a portable ashtray for cigarette butts — "Bottle it, don't litter it"
  • Lead by example every day

Why It MattersPor Qué Importa

Litter does more than create an eyesore. Wind and rain carry litter into storm drains, creeks, rivers, lakes, and eventually oceans. Wildlife can become entangled in plastic debris or mistake litter for food. Chemicals from discarded waste can contaminate soil and water. Litter creates safety hazards — debris that falls from vehicles can cause accidents and damage property. Cities and counties spend millions of dollars each year cleaning litter from roadsides, parks, and public spaces. The good news is that litter is one of the most preventable environmental problems. Small actions taken by many people can create a tremendous impact.
